While attending the USC School of Social Work for my MSW I had the honor of working with some cutting edge technology coupled with professors and field instructors who were nothing short of amazing. Having the opportunity to work with "avatars" such as "MILES" and "Castilla" was a huge benefit for students; both those who had never worked in the field and those who had been in the field for several years grew skills from this experience. For myself personally having Hannah Thomson as my field instructor and Jan Nissly as one of my professors helped me grow in ways I did not even think were possible after being in the field for quite some time. I believe this technology
could have a deep impact on the field of social work and it is my hope that it will become more widely available as not only a tool to gain knowledge and skills but because it also allows for this to happen in a way that is safe for the "client." We have spent years entering into this field while learning with real lives, this would allow the risk to others to be minimized. After all isn't that part of our goals as social workers?? I will post other videos besides the one connected to this post to highlight some of what I have shared here.
